Who does AI shortlist in your category?

We ask AI systems the recommendation questions buyers ask when building a shortlist, and count which brands are recommended, how often, and for which intent.

Live AI checks open soon

This tool sends real buyer questions to AI systems. We are verifying it against live providers before opening it, so it never shows a result that was not actually measured. These checks are available now:

What it checks

Your AI Shortlist Share against every brand the answers recommended.

01

AI Shortlist Share

The share of all recommendations in the tested answers that went to your brand. It is not market share.

02

By intent

Best-for, enterprise, market-specific, switching and problem-led prompts are counted separately.

03

Observed, not explained away

We show the sources cited alongside each recommendation. We do not claim to know why a model chose a brand.

When to use it

Example use cases

  • Size the competitive set AI actually presents to buyers, which often differs from your own list.
  • Find the intent where you are closest to the shortlist.
  • Track one number over time once Eli is connected.

Methodology

How the result is produced

Analysis version 1.0.0 · Scoring methodology 2026-10-04.1 · Updated 2026-10-04

  1. Buyer questions are generated from fixed, published templates using your category, audience and market. Informational prompts such as “what is X” are excluded on purpose.
  2. Each tested question is sent once, unchanged, to every AI provider that is configured, with live web search enabled. Providers that are not configured are listed as “Not tested”. Nothing is simulated.
  3. Brands are counted only when the answer lists them as options to consider and the name literally appears in the answer text.
  4. AI Shortlist Share = your recommendations ÷ all brand recommendations across the tested answers. It describes this sample of answers and is not a measure of market share.
  5. “Why this may be happening” lists observed facts only: which sources were cited in the answers that recommended each brand. No causal ranking factor is claimed.

If something cannot be tested, the report says “Not tested” or “Unable to verify”. Uncertainty is never turned into a score.

FAQ

Questions about this tool

Which AI systems are tested?

The report lists every provider with its status. A provider is tested only when its API is configured and answered. Anything else is labelled “Not tested”, never estimated.

Will I get the same result if I run it again?

Not necessarily. AI answers vary between runs, users and locations. This is one observed sample, cached for a week so the report stays stable and shareable. Continuous measurement needs repeated runs, which is what Eli does once connected.

Is shortlist share the same as market share?

No. It is the share of recommendations in a small sample of AI answers. It says nothing about revenue or customers.
