DIAGNOSTIC FIELD GUIDE

Why isn't ChatGPT recommending your company?

Start with the answer and its evidence—not a generic checklist of “ranking factors.”

01 / SIX FAILURE CLASSES

Find the weak layer before changing anything.

  1. 01Relevance

The page does not clearly answer the exact use case, category or buyer question.

  2. 02Entity clarity

Product, category, ICP or the relationships between them are ambiguous.

  3. 03Evidence

Concrete proof, comparisons, pricing, documentation, results or first-party facts are absent.

  4. 04Corroboration

Competitors have more credible third-party support across the web.

  5. 05Access and freshness

Important pages are hard to crawl, stale, duplicate, blocked or poorly linked.

  6. 06Observation gap

One answer was treated as a stable ranking rather than a variable observation.

02 / START WITH THE ANSWER

Save the observation before you interpret it.

Record the exact prompt, engine/model, date, answer, named brands, citations, source domains, language and market. That evidence makes a later change explainable.

03 / COMPARE THE EVIDENCE

Ask what the category language makes easy to find.

  • Dedicated use-case and comparison pages
  • Clear pricing, product facts and implementation documentation
  • Customer proof, reviews and original evidence
  • Fresh, accessible pages with useful internal paths
  • Legitimate third-party mentions that resolve the buyer question

Prioritize high-intent questions where your company is absent. Strengthen the weakest evidence layer, then re-test the same question set.

04 / WHAT NOT TO DO

Do not manufacture a deterministic “rank.”

Hundreds of near-identical pages, fake reviews, unsourced statistics and crawler-only text do not create a reliable evidence base.

Eli's job is to observe, diagnose, support an improvement, re-measure and connect the evidence to website intent—not promise a fixed answer-engine position.
